“The path from legislative intern to municipal lobbyist to heading government relations for CT’s higher education system gives Alex the perfect combination of experiences to deliver results.”

Having worked for some of the state’s most prominent officials and organizations since 2014, Alex Pilon has established herself as having the problem-solving skills and the strong relationships inside and outside the State Legislature needed to be a highly effective government relations professional.

Beginning as a college intern for S&L in 2013, Alex started her career as part of the lobbying team of the state’s largest municipal trade association. She then served in Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin’s office, where she worked closely with the Mayor to communicate his administration’s positions on statewide legislation to the legislature and on local efforts with the Hartford City Council. Most recently she served in state government as the Director of Government Relations for the Connecticut State College and University system. There, she was responsible for lobbying on behalf of 17 institutions of higher education and their over 80,000 students.

As Senior Government Relations Associate for S&L, Alex will help take the lead on S&L’s outreach to the state’s Congressional delegation and in state budget advocacy. Her strong background in state government will prove valuable in her day-to-day, one-on-one direct lobbying for clients at the State Capitol, as well as lobbying efforts with various state agencies.

Alex graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and is currently completing the Master of Public Policy program at Trinity College.

• Successfully worked to get legislation approved and signed into law ensuring debt-free community college for CT residents beginning in the fall of 2020.

• Successfully advocated for inclusion of funding for public higher education in the federal CARES Act in response to COVID-19 pandemic.

• Led effort with Mayor Bronin and the City of Hartford to build a stronger coalition between the city and neighboring Greater Hartford towns.

• Has an extensive network of influential leaders in local and state government.

Community Involvement
Alex has a passion for public service, as evidenced by her lead role in re-establishing the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women for the city of Hartford. She has supported and volunteered for a number of nonprofit and community-based organizations in the Hartford area, and has also served as a volunteer for political campaigns. Alex lives in West Hartford with her husband, Kyle, and their rescue dog Abe.

“Returning to Sullivan & LeShane is a full circle moment for me. It allows me to bring my deep knowledge of the legislative process and the long-standing relationships I’ve developed to the table to best achieve our clients’ goals. It’s exciting and motivating to be able to work to help achieve positive change for our clients.”
