A personable and energetic new presence at Sullivan & LeShane, Inc., Joe Canino gives our clients a leg up with his excellent organizational skills as he runs our bill tracking system and keeps them in the loop in real time. With a strong knowledge of key legislative policy initiatives, he has risen quickly from legislative intern to sessional consultant his current Legislative Coordinator role due to his work ethic, sharp attention to detail and an ability to meet any deadline at a moment’s notice.

Prior to joining the team at S&L, Joe was a legislative Intern with U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal’s Washington, D.C. office, as well as a media intern at the Cato Institute. He also worked as a sessional lobbyist for another top-level Connecticut government relations firm. Joe is quickly establishing a presence for himself at the Legislative Office Building and State Capitol thanks to his can-do attitude and congenial, enthusiastic demeanor.

As S&L’s Legislative Coordinator, Joe is tasked with tracking bills as they go through the legislative process, providing clients with steady updates on where their interests and priorities stand. This includes covering public hearings, committee meetings and session days. He also provides clients with a weekly summary of the bills that they are tracking, and manage the company’s “In the Loop” newsletter. Joe earned a BA in Political Science from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Accomplishments

• Successfully worked with clients to help them achieve appointments on various task forces and commissions that are set-up by the state legislature.

• Maintains steady contact with key legislative staff to provide them with updated information on a variety of legislative issues.

Community Involvement
A native and current resident of Torrington, Joe is a member of the Torrington Republican Town Committee and an active volunteer in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church there. A regular golfer, talented ukulele player and an avid chess player, Joe has a passion for teaching and tutoring young people in the game of chess as well.
